August 2005
By: Voice of Wrestling

The Voice of Wrestling went live last week from 7-9 EST as host Chris Cash and guest co-host, Dr. Keith Lipinski of PuroresuPower.com, ran down the latest in professional wrestling. Nora Greenwald, formerly Molly Holly of the WWE, came on the show live to discuss her DVD (www.noradvd.com), life after WWE, the possibility of her working elsewhere, and much more. The detailed recap and link to listen is below, plus be sure to tune in live tonight as Chris Cash goes live from 7-9 EST, leading into Raw, with guests Mick Foley and Daffney! Visit www.voiceofwrestling.com to tune in for tonight’s show and join the live chat room to submit questions for the guests.

Chris began by asking why Nora didn’t want to do any interviews or media initially after being released and she claimed it was due to saving all her stories for her DVD. “At first I wasn’t giving interviews just because I was so bombarded with requests and I didn’t know who everybody was,” she said, “and I didn’t want to just be talking to people who were gonna try to manipulate me saying things that I don’t believe”. After a little research, she decided to do her DVD and then start working with the media to promote it.

Nora’s thoughts on sex discussed in the DVD should not come as a shock to anyone and although she does not go into great lengths on the DVD, she feels very strongly about the issue. “I would someday like to be a public speaker in favor of abstinence,” she explains, “I don’t go on and on about it in the DVD, but yeah, I don’t think anyone would be shocked”. She’s heard other speakers talk about the benefits of waiting to have sex with one person and she supports those beliefs.

Given her strong moral beliefs, Chris asked how it became known that Nora would not compromise her morals for a storyline and whether she had ever been approached to do something she didn’t want to. Greenwald explained that when she left WCW and talked with Jim Ross about coming to WWE, he had explained how it would be a pay-cut, she’d have to relocate, and how some of the other women got their big breaks by being one of Godfather’s ho’s, listing Torrie Wilson, Ivory, and Lita as examples.

“They were all ho’s on the show to start out with,” Nora said, “and when he said that, my heart sank, but I didn’t say anything. I just nodded and smiled, said ‘thank you’ and shook his hand and that was it”. However, they didn’t use her as a ho and decided to take the Holly cousin route, but she’s not sure what she would have said if they would have actually asked her to be one. To this day, WWE creative has never asked her to do something she wanted or had to decline. “I’m not sure, but it could be that there are people who look out for me, people who’ve been in the business twenty-some years and they may have the office’s ear and they may make suggestions about stuff I would love to do”. Nora laughs with the hosts as they wonder where she’d be now if she had started out as a ho.

Dr. Keith Lipinski put over the DVD and said it was “nice”. Nora then claimed that it was funny because people had been disappointed she wasn’t meaner. “Quite honestly,” she said, “I think of the word ’shoot’ meaning real like shoot fighting means real fighting and I was being honest”. People claimed she was trying to be quiet so she didn’t burn any bridges in the business. “You can’t burn bridges in wrestling,” she responded, “you can sue Vince and if you can draw money, you can have your job back. So it’s not like I’m worried about stepping on toes or that I’m worried about Vince McMahon not liking me anymore, I’m just honest”.

The shocking secret that is revealed in the DVD was brought up and Nora said her parents didn’t even know about it until they watched the DVD. She joked about making them buy it full price. “No…it was just something that I felt like keeping to myself at that time,” she continued, “we watched it together and we discussed it afterwards”. No information is given on what the secret is, but I’m sure it’s posted somewhere on the ‘net.

Talk moved to TNA and the possibility of Nora working there or for other promotions on the independent scene. “It probably wouldn’t be anytime soon,” she said, “but A.J. Styles came over to our booth at the NWA Legends Fanfest in Charlotte this weekend and he is just the coolest guy ever, so I would certainly like to work anywhere that A.J. Styles is working because he’s just awesome”. She also puts over Tracy Brookes of TNA and says that if she did work for TNA, she’s sure she’d be happy there. “I also love the independents and I would love to maybe someday wrestle Luna [Vachon] in some of the Christian wrestling federations that’s going on and I’d also maybe someday want to go back to work for Vince”. She knows women’s wrestling isn’t dead, but she also knows it will go on just fine without her.

Nora explains how she doesn’t follow wrestling in Japan anymore because she hates violence. “This sounds horrible,” she began, “but I don’t enjoy watching women’s wrestling. I think that it’s brutal…it’s like too violent for me. Really what I love about pro wrestling is the comedy..the Scotty 2 Hotty’s and the Funaki’s. I like athletics and I like comedy, but as far as the chairs and the blood, I don’t know, I’m not into it”. Nora claims that it’s tough when she has to destroy someone after a match by pulling their hair, ramming their head into the match, or using the stairs. “Watching it back, I’m like ‘that’s so sickening’, I hate to see myself doing something like that”. When asked why she does it then, a simple “money” response was all that was needed.

Nora went on to discuss her latest hobbies while she’s away from the business, including building houses and construction, plus she says whether she thinks it’s harder for a woman to make it in professional wrestling and why or why not. She also talked about whether or not she misses the business yet and what she thinks the logic is behind the new direction WWE has taken with their women. A fun, entertaining interview as Nora Greenwald promotes her DVD that you can find and order at www.noradvd.com.
