One group of students got a rare, RAW experience while at school Monday. Some members of World Wrestling Entertainment stopped by Blaine Sumner Middle School before their show at the Peoria Civic Center.
The wrestlers reminded students that there is more to life besides the flash, glitz, and big money that comes with their profession.
A wildcard for World Wrestling Entertainment fans here in Central Illinois.
WWE Raw wrestlers with their dramatic shows, attire and eclectic personalities will light up the ring and fans at the Peoria Civic Center.
Blaine Sumner Middle school students were excited with their own personal show when three of the wrestlers stopped by their school.
Fifth Grader Andrew Barnes said, ”What was good about it? Actually a professional wrestler coming to Peoria just to speak about the things they were talking about, discipline and stuff.”
Former teacher turned wrestler Maven Huffman says his interest in reading peaked as a child after his mother began buying him sports magazines.
”Even at a young age, like in middle school it’s always important to find something that you are interested in, that captures your imagination,” said Hufmman.
Huffman created a little competition among students when 4 of them were asked to mimic wrestler Randy Orton’s famous pose.
With their own ringside seats the students had plenty of questions for the wrestlers and learned some valuable lessons as well.
Fifth Grader Dixie Sutter said, ”Molly Holly had said, when a few little kids were poor they came to her trailer and they didn’t have any food so she fed them.”
”I hope that their goals are more than just being rich and having fancy cars and a big house and all those things because there’s a lot more important goals in life, you know, whether it’s helping others or having a family,” said Holly.
