As a self-confessed fan of “shoot” interviews, I was really looking forward to watching this DVD. Prior to watching it, I already had it in my head that the presentation would be different to the usual shoot interview layout. Partly because it was a production company I was unfamiliar with, and partly because I felt that an interview with Nora Greenwald would be different to an interview with (for argument’s sake) a bitter ex-WWE employee who had just been fired for whatever reason.
One night in October 2004, my wife and I went to a WWE house show in Sheffield, England, and purely by chance, happened to be staying in the same hotel as some of WWE’s superstars. After the show, we had a few drinks in the hotel’s bar, and as we were in the company of some of the RAW brand’s finest, ended up having a couple of beers and brief conversations with some of the wrestlers and staff who were there. One thing that always stood out from that night was that Nora Greenwald (who was obviously Molly Holly at the time) was the only wrestler who took time out to sign an autograph and have her picture taken with a little girl who was in awe of the personalities and characters around her. While I’m sure the vast majority of fans fully appreciate that the schedule of a WWE superstar is far from relaxing, I’ll never forget the look on the little girl’s face after having her picture taken, nor will I forget the look on Nora’s face when she saw how happy she had made the little girl.
Within minutes of hitting the play button on my DVD player and sitting down to watch “Shooting the shi….Crap!”, I immediately realised that the incident I witnessed in Sheffield was exactly why Nora got into this business. Upon further viewing, I firmly had the belief that Nora could possibly the nicest human being on the planet today. This isn’t your usual shoot DVD at all.
The DVD begins with an opening “scene” from Nora, with her reading a report from one of the Internet’s many wrestling news and rumour websites. She reads a statement which claims to be reporting the reasons for her departure from World Wrestling Entertainment. While the REAL reasons for her leaving WWE are not revealed until the latter stages of the interview, I found myself engrossed as I learnt how Nora Greenwald transformed from selling Subway sandwiches to becoming one of the most talented female wrestlers in the business. Continuing to keep away from how your usual shoot interview is laid out, “Shooting the shi….Crap!” is accompanied by music throughout, and Nora’s interview is complimented with comments from her parents and other family members. If you’d told me in advance how the DVD was laid out, I’ll admit I may have thought it would come off as…well…cheesy. In fact, nothing could be further from the truth. What you get from this DVD is an extremely honest look into how Nora went from sales assistant to WWE superstar to the person she is today, and what I saw on that cold night in Sheffield really shows that Nora really is a genuine person who loves nothing more than putting herself in a position where people can look up to her.
Backed by some excellent DVD extras (including a never before seen match vs Malia Hosaka), this DVD is great viewing for Nora’s fans and for wrestling fans in general, and was a pleasure to watch. To order yours, make your way over to www.noradvd.com!
